PURPOSE:To miniaturize and lighten a device and to shorten an access time by obtaining all signals with two light detectors and using a plate-shaped polarization beam splitter. CONSTITUTION:A transmitting beam or a reflecting beam is constituted so that the polarization surface can be approximately 45 deg. to the incident surface to a plate-shaped polarization beam splitter 17 and introduced to a polarization beam splitter. The reproducing signal of the information is removed by the difference between the sum of the output of respective light receiving elements of a two-divided light detector 18 for detecting a tracking error and the sum of the output of respective light receiving elements of a four-divided light detector 19 for detecting a focus error. Thus, the device can be miniaturized and lightened and the access time can be shortened.
