PURPOSE:To offer an MR head with high raw sensitivity and simple construction, by forming a projection having two slopes approaching gradually from the base surface, forming an MR element and forming a conductor layer on one slope of the projection. CONSTITUTION:The MR element 8 made of a ferromagnetic alloy thin film is formed by covering a roof-shaped projection having two slopes approaching gradually from the surface of the nonmagnetic base 6 and a conductor layer 9 is formed on one slope of the projection 7. In forming an insulating layer 10 thereon, it is polished until the MR element appears. The MR element 8 is divided into two parper tablets, PO on the slop and OQ on the slope adjacent to the conductor layer 9. In flowing a current to the MR element 8 and the conductor layer 9, the bias magnetization 13 from the P to the O in the part PO with the magntic field due to the part OQ and the current of the conductor layer 9 is obtained. On the other hand, a magnetic field toward the Q from the O with the current of the part PO and a shunt bias magnetic field toward the O from the Q due to the shunt current of the conductor layer 9 are added to the part OQ, and the bias magnetization opposite to the PO and the OQ is attained. The element 8 is placed in the shape conforming to the signal magnetic field 4 and the change is detected efficiently. |
