PURPOSE:To reduce the man-hour required for making distance measurement and exposure of measuring attendants by providing a survey meter, distance measuring means which detects the distance between the meter and an object to be measured and a distance displaying means which displays the measured distance. CONSTITUTION:When the distance measuring system of this survey meter is actuated by operating a switch 3 after the survey meter main body 1 is faced to an object to be measured, ultrasonic waves 5 are transmitted from a distance measuring sensor 4 also working as a transmitting and receiving section to the object and reflected waves from the object are received by the sensor 4. A measurement circuit which measures the distance between the main body 1 and object based on the period of time from the moment when the ultrasonic waves are oscillated to the moment when the reflected waves of the ultrasonic waves are received is connected to the sensor 4. The measured value of the measurement circuit is given to a display 6 and displayed on the distance displaying section 6a of the display 6 in digital values. Therefore, manual distance measurement using a measuring scale, etc., becomes unnecessary and the man-hour required for the measurement and exposure of measuring attendants can be reduced.
