The indicator comprises a piston (12) biased by a spring (23) against the fluid pressure to be sensed and a flat light-shielding member (18) in a window (4), said flat light-shielding member being provided with a bag (19) made of a material which allows at least partial transmission of light, and a light-absorbing liquid (27) sealed in the bag. At normal pressure the piston is moved adjacent the spring and compresses the bag forcing the liquid into a peripheral region (28) thus making the piston visible. If the pressure falls sufficiently the spring moves the piston away from the bag allowing the liquid to obscure the piston. The indicator is used with gas cookers and gas cylinders.
