A valve stem seal assembly 10 includes a rigid cylindrical shell 12 and an annular resilient seal body 14 supported within an endwall 18 of the shell 12. The resilient seal body 14 includes an exterior circumferential groove 22, and the endwall 18 contains an aperture 20 adapted for being received in the groove 22. The circumference of the aperture 20 in the endwall 18 is greater than the circumference of the bottom of the groove 22. A predetermined radial clearance 34 is thereby created to provide that the resilient seal body 14 remains concentric with a reciprocating valve stem 80, notwithstanding the fact that the stem 80 may be eccentric relative to a valve guide 60 to which the assembly is affixed. |
