PURPOSE:To obtain an easy method of manufacturing a ring laser gyro, by using a glass laser as the laser of the ring laser gyro. CONSTITUTION:A laser of a ring laser gyro is provided by a glass laser 3. According to an embodiment, 180ml of water and 20ml of IN hydrochloric acid are added to 208g of ethyl silicate and the mixture was stirred sufficiently to cause hydrolysis. Then, 90g of silica powder is added thereto and dispersed sufficiently to make sol. 8.25g of neodymium nitrate is added to the sol and dispersed well. Further, 0.1N aqueous ammonium is added thereto so that the sol has a pH value of 4.5. The sol 2 is injected into a shaping vessel 1 having a shape of equilateral triangle as shown in the drawing. After the sol is gelled, the gel is taken out of the vessel and introduced into a drying vessel, where it is dried at 60 deg.C for 10 days to make dry gel. The dry gel is heated to 1300 deg.C and sintered to provide a transparent glass laser. A total reflection mirror is formed at two among the three vertices of the triangle while a half mirror is formed at the other vertex. |
