A gas filter comprises a rectangular housing 1, one wall of which is made of a flat sheet of filter cloth 5. The housing is divided into parallel sections each having an inlet 6 at the top and an outlet 10 at the bottom, through which a fraction of the gas is removed carrying all the solid particles retained by the cloth. Baffles 7, 8, 9, of which baffle 7 is adjustable, direct the gas flow across the upstream face of the cloth. The pain part of the gas flows through cloth 5 into a secondary filter 2 in the form of a drum. Inlets 6 may receive respective gas steams carrying different types of solids. <IMAGE>
