According to the invention it is provided that the surface of a photoconductor is suitably constructed in a rough manner so that the transmission effect for a specific transmission current is improved. As a result, the amount of toner can be reduced which is left behind after the transmission and before a cleaning step is carried out. The amount of toner which is still present at the start of the next cycle can be reduced as a consequence. Pictures and characters are thus printed of good quality. In addition, the toner consumption is reduced. The cleaning device has to be exchanged less often than previously. Finally, the toner scatters inside the printer to a lesser extent than previously so that the servicing intervals can be increased.
