The invention relates to a locking of the piston rod within a cylinder for a hydraulic chucking device and for the chucking of workpieces, shapes and the like on machine tables. A clamping device is arranged movably within a housing. The clamping device possesses different bores, one matched to the diameter of the piston and one to the diameter of the piston rod. The clamping device is widened conically at its end relative to the piston rod, and seated on the piston rod is a wedge, the outer face of which is made conical and is matched to the widened cone. This wedge is provided with slots and can therefore be pressed onto the piston rod. This pressing-on takes place by sliding the conical faces of the clamping device and of the wedge on one another, as a result of which a pressure acting perpendicularly to the movement is also exerted on the wedge. The locking device takes effect irrespective of incorrect operations and can be released for loading with compressed air by means of two pulses transmitted simultaneously.
