The invention relates to an apparatus for engraving cut lines in surfaces (7) to be engraved, especially for engraving engraved foils, having a frame (1) which carries a graving tool (8) which is guidable on the surface to be engraved and a rotatable lens system (16) which can be directed towards the engraving tool (8), the frame (1) being provided with three supporting legs (2), one of which is formed by the graving tool (8). In this apparatus, provision is made for - the axis (17a) of the graving tool (8) to coincide with an axis (17) of the lens system (17a), - the cutting line (18a) of the one-part or multi-part blade (18) of the graving tool (8) to extend parallel to an axis of rotation (19) of the lens system, - the axis of rotation (19) of the lens system (16) to extend perpendicularly to the axial plane (17) of the lens system (16) with which the axis (17a) of the graving tool (8) coincides. <IMAGE>
