The invention relates to a sack, in particular a paper sack, which has at the top end an opening which extends over the entire sack width between layers which are stepped in the longitudinal direction of the sack and whose exposed steps form an edge strip which has an adhesive coating at least on the outer step and is folded over along a fold line to close the sack and is bonded to the outer side of the sack. A sack which can be produced in a simple manner and can be closed in a dust-tight manner has a tubular section which is cut straight at the end, the steps being formed by closure strips made of paper which are attached in each case to a projection beyond the end on the back and on the front of the tubular section, the projection of the rear closure strip being larger than the projection of the front closure strip. The two closure strips project on both sides beyond the lateral sack edges and have an adhesive coating in the covering region of its projections on its mutually facing sides.
