PURPOSE: To effectively block the entrance of water into a cable and the movement of water in the longitudinal direction by inserting a water blocking member made of water swelling powder between a core and a plastic jacket. CONSTITUTION: Between an optical fiber 24 and a jacket 32, a water blocking member 33 processed with a material which is capable of blocking water such as a water swelling material is arranged. The water blocking member 33 is formed into a strip or a yarn shape to cover the extremely limited part of the inner peripheral surface of a cable 20. Therefore, adhesive strength of the jacket 32 and other parts of an armoring system 26 is not damaged by the water blocking member 33. According to contact with water, a water swelling material in a cable structure swells and water is prevented from flowing. As a result, the entering of water and the flowing of water in the longitudinal direction are suppressed to a considerable degree. |
