The invention relates to a configuration of a valve plate (21 to 24) and a valve seat (3), in particular a fitting with a spindle (1) and a valve plate (21 to 24) which can be fitted onto a valve seat (3). The fitting serves to close off a high-pressure chamber (4) from a low-pressure chamber (5). Provision is made for the valve plate (21 to 24) and the valve seat (3) to be shaped so that they can be pressed against one another in a sealing manner only on an annular zone (7). The width of the zone (7) corresponds only to a part of the radial dimension of the valve seat (3) which can be covered by the valve plate (21 to 24). The zone (7) is always arranged near to the high-pressure chamber (4). <IMAGE>
