<p>An apparatus for cutting soft sheetlike material, such as a fabric material which is subject to elongation due to the effect of tensile force has a pneumatically-actuated gripper feed device 26 for supplying the material 16 which may be layered from an upper position to a lower position preferably in an intermittent step-like manner. A cutting device 36, including blades (62, 64, 66, Fig 7), act on the material, when in a stationary vertically-suspended condition, to form cutting lines (S1, S2, Fig 6) of basic configuration therein along the elongate direction thereof. The cutting lines may be repeatedly formed following each advancing step of the material 16 to create cutting lines which extend substantially continuously along the material. Devices are also provided for removing unwanted portions (N1, N2, Fig 6) of the material 16 so as to leave only the essential portion (M). The material, forming the portion M, which may consist of superimposed sheets 12 of flexible soft material which is subject to elongation by tensile force and thin flexible backing layer(s) 14, are separated at 43 and independently wound. <IMAGE></p> |
