Detectors receive light reflected from the check objects, passed through them, and their output signals are processed by a decision circuit of a computer for evaluation. The computer has a signal generator for a printed and a print-free zone according to the banknote type. A computer assembly with a gate, two integrators and a subtracting stage, computes an output signal of the detectors in accordance with their signals. It also computes the volume of the passed or reflected light w.r.t. the printed and print-free zones.
