PURIFICATION OF 2,4-DINITRO CHROLO BENZENE

A method for purifying 2,4-dinitro chlorobenzene of formula (I) in the mixt. of (I) and 2,6-dinitrochlorobenzene of formula (II) comprises (a) dissolving the mixt. in an organic solvent i.e. lower alcohol of formula ROH, benzene deriv. of formula (III)) or a mixt. of an organic solvent and H2O, (b) heating it to 60-90 deg.C to get homogeneous phase, and (c) cooling it to 0-30 deg.C to obtain pure 2,4-dinitro chlorobenzene. In the formulas, R=C1-4 alkyl; X1 and X2 each = H or CH3. The cpd. (I) is used as an intermediate of a dispersing and acidic dyestuff.
