PURPOSE:To obtain a reduced picture without sensing discontinuity on a boundary part between pictures by storing the picture data of a reducing area in a storing part. CONSTITUTION:At the time of storing, the number of picture elements of a divided area corresponding to the maximum reduction ratio of a vertical direction and a horizontal direction allowed by a system is stored in the storing part 105 as a vertically and horizontally enlarged reducing area and at the time of retrieving, grid points constituted by dividing the vertical direction and the horizontal direction of the whole picture by the number of the picture elements corresponding to the ratio in arbitrary vertical and horizontal directions respectively are matched to the one dot of the reduced picture, the mean value of the luminance value of the picture in a small area enclosed by the grid points in the vicinity is applied as the luminance value of the grid points to reduce the picture and display. Thereby, the reduced picture can be obtained without sensing the discontinuity on the boundary part of the divided picture. |
