The portable crimping tongs for C-clips have a pair of cooperating jaws with recesses at their free ends for reception of the successive C-clips fed from a supply magazine via a feed plate. The plate is held in its foremost position to act as stop preventing the rear movement of the C-clip clamped between the crimping jaws. Reciprocating rods control the movement of the feed plate and the pivoting of the crimping jaws operated via double-action hydraulic cylinders or by a rack and pinion mechanisms. The mechanism is driven by a reversible AC motor via an electromagnetic clutch.
