A load carrier comprises part of a vehicle which transports goods in a preferably automated high-stand storage facility having shelf compartments (24) carried by uprights (20). There is a coordinate system of reflective gauge points (23), on the uprights, and fixed reference points (22) located close to the floor. The reference points (22) are detected by a photocell on the vehicle chassis, whereas the gauge points (23) are detected by a photocell mounted on the vertically movable load carrier. A computer computes the positional difference between a fixed reference point and gauge points located immediately thereabove. These differences are used to determine the actual position of each shelf compartment while taking into account misalignment and outward bending of the uprights. The differences are stored in the computer memory, measuring operations being carried out at any convenient time. <IMAGE> |
