The present invention presents a device for enhancing the sensitivity and the dynamic range of optical systems including an image pick-up 3 emitting a signal representing the image picked up, and a means 24 of forming an image on this pick-up 3. The invention proposes an addition of constant or variable light on to the surface of the pick-up and various means 9 for servocontrol of this addition of light and of the sensitivity of the pick-up. In a first embodiment, an addition of constant light is carried out by a light source, the addition bringing about a brightness which is generally less than the sensitivity of the pick-up, this sensitivity being adjusted beforehand by the device for the perception of high brightness without glare. In a second embodiment, the addition of light is undertaken by a flat screen modulating a light emitted by the device, this flat screen being optically conjugate to the pick-up 3. Finally, the present invention proposes a final processing at the output of the device in order to reestablish the linearity of the response of this device as a function of the image formed by the image-forming means. <IMAGE>
