PURPOSE:To make it possible to remove chips or the like stuck to a valve seat or a large diameter head part of the valve, simultaneously with the fitting of the valve, by arranging a gas jetting means communicated with a supply source and adapted to be connected with a head port, on a positioning and loading bed for a cylinder head. CONSTITUTION:When the setting of the chip removing unit 17 is completed, a valve suction unit 11 energizes a solenoid valve 12 connected to a vacuum pump 13 so as to effect a negative pressure in a valve guide Vg. Meanwhile, when the fitting of the valve V is initiated, the rod end of a valve V gripped by a valve fitting device is lowered down to the opening end of the guide Vb, and the valve V is inserted in the guide Vg by the pressing force of the rod until a large diameter head part of the valve V abuts against a valve seat Vs while the center axis of the valve V is made to coincide with the center axis of the valve with the use of the negative pressure.
