PURPOSE:To permit execution of correction of defects of orientation generated in a cell even after injecting liquid crystals by constituting an auxiliary electrode pattern so as to make up spaces between display electrode patterns and a impressing orienting pulses to both the auxiliary electrode and the display electrode at near transition temp. CONSTITUTION:An auxiliary pattern 13 is formed on In oxide - Tin oxide transparent electroconductive thin film (ITO film) 13 on a glass substrate 12 coated with the ITO film, and an insulating film (SiO2) is formed thereon. Then, the ITO film is formed on the insulating film, and a display electrode 11 pattern is formed on the ITO film. A nylon film as an orientation film is formed thereon. After prepg. a liquid crystal cell by this method, the temp. of the cell is held at slightly lower temp. than the transition temp. (TAC), and an electric field having either sine wave form, rectangular wave form, or triangle wave form is impressed and the cell is cooled slowly by standing to room temp. Thus, the disclination which has been present previously is the part where the electric field pattern has been present is eliminated or reduced, and becomes indistinct. Thus, the defect of orientation can be corrected even after the injection of the liquid crystal. |
