Cis-4-amino 4-chloro N-(1-(3-(4- fluoro phenozy) propyl) 3-methoxy 4-piperidinyl) 2-methoxy benzamide of formula (I) for use in stimulating gastro-intestinal motility, is obtd. by (a) reducing the quaternary pyridinium salt of formula (II), in which W is an inorganic or organic ion, with hydrogen in an organic solvent in presence of a metal catalyst, opt. at elevated temp. and pressure and opt. in presence of a base; and (b) opt. forming acceptable salts or converting the salts into the free base.
