Apparatus (44) for applying a fusible granular precursor of a protective and/or decorative coating to the surface (40) of an article (20). The apparatus includes a dispenser (120, 122) for dispensing a stream of the fusible granular precursor in a stream of a bearing fluid, a recovery mechanism (44) for recovering fusible granular precursor that does not adhere to the surface of the article, and mounting hardware (124) for mounting the dispenser (120, 122) within the recovery mechanism (44). The recovery mechanism (44) is coupled (62) to a reclaim facility (64) for reclaiming fusible granular precursor recovered by the recovery mechanism (44). The recovery mechanism (44) includes first (54) and second (56) manifolds, a blower (64) for establishing subambient pressures in the first (54) and second (56) manifolds, a first series (66, 68, 70, 72) of inlets generally surrounding (52) the dispenser (120, 122) and coupled (78, 86, 94) to the first manifold (54), and a second series (100, 102, 104) of inlets coupled (112, 114) to the second manifold (56). |
