The invention relates to a method for preparing ferrochromium slag, by adding SiO2 and Al2O3 bearing mixing agents, into slag melt which can be defibrated into fibers resistant to high temperatures and alkaline conditions. Mechanically strong fibers are obtained when the SiO2/Al2O3 ratio of the added mixing agents is within the range of 0.8-1.85 and the MgO content of the mixed slag, as reduced to the MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 system, is within the range of 10-20% by weight.
