Process comprises (a) impregnating the material with an emulsion-destabilising electrolyte salt; (b) reducing the moisture content of the material to a residual valve so that the electrolyte retained is sufficient to bring about coagulation of the resin and partially prevent its penetration into the material; and (c) spreading a latex emulsion of acrylic or butadiene-acrylonitrile resin over the impregnated material in thickness of 0.5mm approx.. Impregnation of m the material should be sufficient to bring about covering of its surface with crystals of the electrolyte salt.
