The invention relates to a safety belt system in motor vehicles to make it possible to reduce a preliminary displacement of fastened-in vehicle occupants in the event of an accident. To achieve this, a belt tightening device (23) is provided to eliminate existing belt slack and a clamping device (4) is provided for the belt (3). To ensure that the belt (3) can be passed through the clamping device (4) without contact during normal use of the safety belt system and that there is troublefree interaction with the belt tightening device (23) when the clamping device (4) is operating, provision is made for transmission means to be connected to the belt tightening device (23) which are coupled to the clamping device (4), preferably take the form of a Bowden cable (18) and, when the belt tightening device (23) becomes active, act on the clamping device (4) in a manner which cancels out the operation of the clamping jaws position-fixing element (16), in order to bring the clamping jaws (5, 6) of the said clamping device (4) into contact with the belt (3). This ensures that the clamping device (4) can be directly activated by the belt tightening device (23) when the latter becomes active, without initiating the actual belt clamping operation, while permitting the design to remain simple. The actual belt clamping operation only occurs in the event of appropriate movement of the belt (3) owing to preliminary displacement of the fastened-in vehicle occupant (Fig. 1). <IMAGE> |
