An underwater towed antenna has a towed length (which forms the acoustically active part and has hydrophones) and a towing cable which couples the towed length to a towing vessel and in which the signal cables which lead to the hydrophones run. The depth of such an underwater towed antenna can easily be controlled by in each case providing a separate trimming unit in the towed length and in the towing cable, and by the towing cable having a streamlined cross-sectional profile. Each trimming unit consists of two trimming hoses which pass through the towed length and the towing cable respectively, are connected to one another at one end and are connected at the other end to an inlet and outlet for a replaceable trimming liquid.
