PURPOSE: To obtain the subject wallpaper excellent in moisture-absorbing and desorbing properties, and having smooth surface by forming a foamed layer on the surface out of a moisture-permeable synthetic resin, preferably by laminating and fixing the foamed layer including a moisture absorbent dispersed in the resin. CONSTITUTION: The objective wallpaper is obtained by coating a compound obtained by adding (C) a moisture absorbent 5 such as bentonite, preferably in the proportion of 10-300 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. component B, to (B) a synthetic resin 3 soluble in a solvent, hardly swelled in water, and having film-formability and moisture-permeability, e.g. a vinyl alcohol-based resin, and further adding microcapsules encapsulating a volatile liquid, on the surface of (A) a mount 4 such as flame-resistant pulp paper, preferably having 100-1,000μm thickness, and heating and foaming the coated product to provide the objective wallpaper having moisture-permeable resin foam layer 1 having closed cells 2 formed therein.
