<p>One side of the shelter is open, but may be partially blocked from the sides and top by inflatable ribbed curtains of the air mattress type. The inflation is provided by a motor-driven pump (3) on the roof of the building. The two side curtains (2) are inflated with sufficient air to extend them as far as necessary against the return tension of elastic ropes. When they are deflated the ropes ensure that they are drawn back to the sides of the aperture. The elastic rope (11) which is used for the top curtain (1) is wound around a horizontal shaft (4). The shaft can be rotated by an integral motor which has built-in rotary position detectors to enable accurate positioning. When the curtain is no longer required, it is deflated and the motor shortens the effective length of the cord between the shaft and the lowest curtain segment, drawing the curtain up to the roof.</p> |
