<p>1424089 Tempering glass SAINT-GOBAIN INDUSTRIES 19 Dec 1973 [27 Dec 1972] 58752/73 Heading C1M Tempering glass articles by immersing the heated articles in a liquid bath and directing at least one stream of liquid from an orifice within the bath towards the article. As shown (Fig. 2) a glass sheet is suspended on tongs 5 in a liquid bath, the streams of liquid being directed from longitudinal slots 15, 15<SP>1</SP> in pipes 10, 101. The liquid is supplied to the pipes from a reservoir 11 by means of a pump 12, the reservoir being supplied by an overflow 14 from the bath. An alternative apparatus (Fig. 3, not shown) is provided with a pair of boxes each having a plurality of orifices. The liquid directed against the article may be the same as that of the bath or alternatively be a liquid which is non-miscible with and of a lower specific gravity than the bath liquid. During treatment the orifices may perform an oscillatory movement in a vertical plane.</p> |
