Process and generator for generating a pesticidal gas mixture of phosphine gas and air for fumigating an enclosed environment, e.g. a grain silo (22) with phosphine. Gas, moisture content adjusted, if necessary, by drying or humidifying, is passed through a aluminium phoshide or magnesium phosphide, perferably in a throw-a-way cartridge (13). The cartridge is preferably completely filled with metal phosphide (14) in powder or granulate form, may have cylindrical gas-tight side walls, flexible and stretchable to allow for expansion of the metal phosphide during hydrolysis, and porous end walls. |
