PHOSPHORYLALKANOLAMIDE DERIVATIVES OF L-CARNITINE AND PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITIONS CONTAINING SAME

Amide derivatives of L-carnitine of formula wherein: R is H or a straight or branched alkanoyl group having 2-6 carbon atoms; X- is the anion of a pharmacologically acceptable acid; Y+m is the cation of an alkaline or alkaline-earth metal; n is an integer from 1 to 6; n' is either 0 or 1; and m is either 1 or 2, are more active than L-carnitine in restoring to normal in the myocardium the metabolism of fatty acids imbalanced by the administration of erucic acid. Pharmaceutical compositions containing such derivatives are effective for therapeutical treatment of hyperlipidemias, atherosclerosis and cardiovascular and metabolic disturbances related thereto.
