PURPOSE:To branch a tape-shaped optical fiber to plural optical fibers without deteriorating the transmission characteristics thereof by embedding a wire rod for tearing a covering layer into the covering layer between the optical fiber on one side and the other optical fiber adjacent to said side. CONSTITUTION:The tape-shaped optical fiber is constituted of 4 pieces of the optical fibers. Coating layers 2a, 2b of the fibers on one side are in contact with the coating layers 2c, 2d of the fibers on the other side. The covering layer 3 for integrating 4 pieces of the optical fibers is constricted in this spacing part. The wire rod 9 is embedded into the covering layer 3 in this constricted part and extends parallel with the glass fibers 1. The physical strength in the constricted part of the covering layer 3 is low and further the wire rod 9 is embedded therein, and therefore, the covering layer 3 is torn by pulling the wire rod 9, by which the tape-shaped optical fiber is easily branched to the other optical fibers including the glass fiber 1c, 1d. |
