There is disclosed a photoreceptor which comprises a brominated anthanthrone pigment represented by the structural formula shown below: <IMAGE> contained in the photosensitive layer, the brominated anthanthrone pigment exhibiting a X-ray diffraction spectrum having the respective diffraction strengths S (18.4 DEG ) and S (26.7 DEG ) at 2 theta =18.4 DEG and 26.7 DEG which satisfy the relationship of 0.2</=S (18.4 DEG ) / S (26.7 DEG )</=1.0; or exhibiting a X-ray diffraction spectrum having the respective half-value widths of diffraction strength of DELTA theta (18.4 DEG ) and DELTA theta (26.7 DEG ) at 2 theta =18.4 DEG and 26.7 DEG which satisfy the relationship of { DELTA theta (18.4 DEG )</=0.8 DEG } and/or { DELTA theta (26.7 DEG )</=1 DEG }.
