PURPOSE:To obtain sufficient luminous brightness, make the trigger discharge easy to occur, and prevent the aging characteristic deterioration by forming anodes and display cathodes on a back panel and forming a trigger electrode and an insulating layer on a front panel. CONSTITUTION:This device has a back panel 2 and a transparent front panel 1, multiple anodes 3 and display cathodes 4 arranged face to face on the back panel 2 and crossing together to form discharge spaces respectively, a trigger electrode 9 formed on the front panel 1, and an insulating layer 8 formed on this trigger electrode 9. When the present voltage is applied across the anodes 3 and the trigger electrode 9, a discharge occurs across them, capacitors consisting of the anodes 3 and the trigger electrode 9 and the insulating layer 8 between them are charged, and the discharge is stopped. When the preset voltage is applied across the anodes 3 and the cathodes 4, a quick main discharge occurs across them. Sufficient luminous brightness is thereby obtained, the trigger discharge is made easy to occur, and the aging characteristic deterioration due to the spattering of the cathodes is prevented. |
