PURPOSE:To obtain the title substance which is used as one of major starting substances of antibiotics by catalytic hydrogenation of piperazine and acetonitrile in the presence of Raney nickel, reduced nickel or Pt on carbon. CONSTITUTION:The reaction of 1mol. of piperazine and 2mol. of acetonitrile is subjected to catalytic hydrogenation in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst, preferably Pt on carbon, in an organic solvent such as water, alcohol, dioxane, or without solvent, at 40-120 deg.C under 30-110kg/cm<2>. In case of no solvent, an excess amount of acetonitrile should be used, because it acts as a solvent per se. |
