In a sports shoe, in particular for runners, in the heel region, the outsole, which makes contact with the ground, and the associated damping element are arranged outside the shoe housing next to the protective sole covering the foot from the bottom, so that, in comparison with conventional embodiments, the damping member is up to 5 times heigher, avoiding the stilt effect and creating a broader base, as a result of which not only is the standing and stepping safety considerably improved, but above all an extremely soft damping of the inertia forces with great tension force of the spring takes place, so that the energy is not destroyed but stored and supports the runner in the setting-down phase. The shoe achieves a high utilisation factor and can be adapted to the particular conditions of use as the damping member and the outsole are individually exchangeable. The damping member, which can be designed as a hollow spring or a pneumatic spring which is controllable via an external valve, has indicators which give an early indication of the limit of capacity and the regeneration point of the spring.
