The topical antibacterial cream base to enhance penetration of an iodophor (I) comprises a mixture of hydrocarbon(s) (II) and 20-50 wt.% of moisturising polyol(s) (III). (I) is an active component to destroyed tissue. Pref. (II) are selected from mineral oil, liq. parafin, white petrolatum, white ointment or mixt. of liq. parfin and white petrolatum. Pref. (III) is propylene glycol and/or glycerin. Pref. wt. ratio (II):(III) is 1:14:1. Pref. emulsifier(s) are also present, pref. at 1-15 wt.%.
