PURPOSE: To achieve a higher durability of a ball by producing a sewing thread of a fiber obtained by melt-spinning a wholly aromatic polyester. CONSTITUTION: A thermotropic liquid crystal polymer comprising a copolymer of p-hydroxybenzoic acid and 6-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid is used to be melt-spun by adding a red pigment thereto. The spun raw yarn obtained is doubled to make a tow for the production of a spun yarn by a normal tow spinning method. Moreover, the spun yarn obtained undergoes a thermal treatment in the air and twisted to make a sewing thread. This achieves a higher durability of a ball as compared with the sewing thread produced from a polyvinyl alcohol- based spun yarn and a Kevlar (R) spun yarn made of an aramid fiber. |
