摘要 PURPOSE:To selectively obtain the present compound useful as a raw material for high-functional plastic, etc., by using a silica-alumina catalyst prepared by blending alkoxides of aluminum and silicon in an oxygen-containing organic solvent and hydrolyzing the blend. CONSTITUTION:2-Methylnaphthalene is reacted with an isopropylating agent in a silica-alumina catalyst prepared by blending alkoxides of aluminum and silicon in an oxygen-containing organic solvent such as monovalent - polyvalent alcohols, ketoalcohol or etheralcohol at 20-150 deg.C, preferably 40-80 deg.C and then adding water of 1-100mol., preferably 2-30mol. based on 1mol. alkoxysilane to the blend and subjecting the blend to gellation under the above- mentioned temperature to provide 2-methyl-6-isopropylnaphthalene useful also as a raw material for electrically conductive material in simple treatment, mild reaction and high selectivity.
