An oil agent for treating synthetic fibers, which contains 30 wt % or more poly(1,2-oxybutylene-oxyethylene) ether derivative prepared by random addition polymerization of a monohydric alcohol having a limited number of carbon atoms or a dihydric to tetrahydric alcohol and 1,2-butylene oxide and ethylene oxide and having a molecular weight of the poly(1,2-oxybutylene-oxyethylene) ether moiety of 1,200 to 10,000, and which is used in the form of an aqueous emulsion or aqueous solution. This agent removes the defect of seriously foaming properties as an aqueous emulsion or aqueous solution and shows a remarkably low foaming or antifoaming properties even in the copresence of a surfactant, while maintaining the advantage with the addition polymer between 1,2-propylene oxide and ethylene oxide of good heat resistance (e.g., tar-forming resistance, smoking resistance, etc.) and excellent lubricity. |
