A flame-retardant material with low swelling in the case of fire and low and uniform cell formation in the ceramic ash comprises (a) a matrix, which constitutes 10-40% by weight of the material comprising at least one ethylene copolymer, (b) 35-89% by weight of the material of a mixture of (i) aluminium oxide trihydrate, and (ii) calcium carbonate or calcium-magnesium carbonate or both these compounds, with the mixture containing a ratio, in % by weight, between (i) and (ii) of from 30:70 to 70:30, and (c) at least one compound which constitutes 1-25% by weight of (a) of a tri(hydrocarbyl)phosphate ester.
