PURPOSE: To prevent reverse riding and improve visual effect with a small and well-designed display device, by providing the inside surface of a handrail panel near a putting-on/off opening with a display body projecting toward a step side, and an illuminating body for alarming any passenger trying to ride reversely. CONSTITUTION: When a passenger conveyer E is used for upward movement, a slender display device 6 is provided on the inside surface of a handrail panel 3A near a putting-on/off opening 5 in the upper part of a handrail 3. The display device 6 has a display body 6C having a tilting surface 6A with an angleθfor which a putting-on/off gate 5 side end Y has a wide width W1 substantially same as an interval of the handrail panels 3A for the moving direction of a step 1 and a step 1 side angle Z has a narrow width W2 and a display part 6B. An illuminating body 6D is provided in the tilting surface 6A and transmits a light beam K. The display part 6B provide visually beautiful display with a function for displaying characters, patterns, and light to the surface, and the illuminating body 6D alarms any passenger trying to ride reversely using color tone such as yellow or red indicating danger.
