Copolyester is produced by adding a compound (1) in the amount of 0.01wt.%-15wt.% to that of polyester in the process of polymerising polyester with addition of an organic metal sulfonate and is mixed with polyethylene terephthalate to be spun into the polyester fibre, which is woven or knitted into fabric to be treated with aqueous alkali solution for absorptive property. In formula (1), R'=hydrogen or an ester forming derivative, R"=trivalent aromatic hydrocarbon group or trivalent aliphatic hydrocarbon group.
