PURPOSE: To produce the subject additive capable of providing a high-speed printing paper good in surface hardness, printing characteristics and gloss by condensing polyamines with dibasic carboxylic acids, forming an active hydrogen-containing resin and then reacting the resultant resin with a polyfunctional unsaturated carbonyl compound, etc. CONSTITUTION: A condensing reaction of (A) polyamines with (B) dibasic carboxylic acids and/or derivatives thereof is carried out to provide a polyamidopolyamine resin in which amino groups having at least one active hydrogen are contained in an amount of >=0.05 mol based on 1 mol of the produced resin and the number of aromatic amide bonds is 50-70% of the total number of amide bonds. The resultant resin is then reacted with (C) anα,β-unsaturated carbonyl compound having >=2 unsaturated double bonds, anα,β-unsaturated carbonyl compound, etc., having one unsaturated double bond and hydroxyl group, methylol group, epoxy group or amide group to add the component C to the amino groups in the resin. Thereby, the objective additive is produced.
