PURPOSE:To prevent an ink from flowing before fixation and prevent a beading phenomenon, by providing a hydrophobic part on the surface of an ink receiving layer. CONSTITUTION:A recording material comprises a base 3, an ink receiving layer 1 and a hydrophobic part 2 provided on the surface 1' of the layer 1. The ink receiving layer is formed of a hydrophilic material capable of receiving mainly water-based inks, and may any of those conventionally known. The thickness of the ink receiving layer must only be in such a range as to enable the inks to be supported by the layer, and though it depends on the quantity of the inks applied by recording, it is not particularly limited, provided that it is not less than 0.1mum. The hydrophobic part is preferably provided so as to divide the surface of the ink receiving layer, the line width being preferably 5-800mum and the line interval being preferably 10mum-2mm. The hydrophobic part is provided by printing such as planography and gravure printing. A hydrophobic substance to be used is a substance incompatible with the water-based inks, particularly, an organic substance, and is preferably a liquid or solid nonvolatile at normal temperature. |
