A protection and insulating path for pipelines, in which the transported medium has a considerable temperature difference with respect to the ambient temperature. The path has a continuous foundation as the base of the path, on which the pipeline is supported, if necessary via intermediate elements. The pipe is surrounded on all sides. In the protection and insulating path, at least the side walls (7) and the cover (9) consist of insulating boards which are connected together and are arranged at a distance from the pipe jacket. The box cross-section which is formed by the side walls (7) and the cover (9) is filled with a heat-insulating filling material (4). The wall parts are connected via plug connecting parts, preferably grooves (6) and tongues (8) which are integral with the wall parts. <IMAGE>
