Equipment for breaking bales, e.g. compact bales made up of herbs and spices, comprises a drum with a cylindrical or polygonal prismatic shape, with frames (1) at both endings. The frames are connected to each other by means of joint bars (2). The drum is covered by a mesh mantle (3) from the outside, whose tightness can be adjusted by stretching elements (4) connected to the frame. The bale that is inserted in the drum of the invented bale breaker equipment knocks against the frames and joint bars during the rotation of the drum, then it loosens and gradually smashes. The intensity of the breaking is further increased by the shredding teeth (7) that are fixed to the frames and/or to the joint bars. The chippings that are broken into little pieces fall down through the mesh mantle. <IMAGE>
