In the case of a motor vehicle with a side body which has a door opening without a centre pillar and a front and a rear sliding door, in the closed position the rear edge of the front door and the front edge of the rear door bear against each other. With respect to the vehicle floor, the edges of the doors are of a rectilinear and virtually vertical shape. Getting into and out of this motor vehicle is laborious since the shape of the edges of the sliding doors is not designed ergonometrically. In the case of the new side body the shape of the edges of the sliding doors corresponds to the shape of the contours of the vehicle seats. In a leg region the edges are vertical with respect to the vehicle floor, in a hip region they are inclined obliquely rearwards and in a head region are guided virtually vertically. This makes getting into and out of the vehicle easy even when the sliding doors are only open a little. Side body for passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles. <IMAGE>
